I think I understand how you feel. When I was 21, I became an art teacher and developed such a crush on a student who was 13 at the time. Of course, I never said anything or showed my attraction.
I ran into her again after 21 years. We had lunch and I find that I'm still attracted to her now. I'd love to have a real date with her, but if it doesn't happen, I won't lose sleep over it.
Anyway, it sounds like you have a car. If this date is as important to you as it sounds, being a cheap **** will ruin it for sure. Instead of having her take the bus, drive her to a decent diner instead. The atmosphere should be nicer. If you don't have a car, ride the bus with her.
Lose the taped glasses, if you're able to go without wearing them. If you do need them, try Krazy Glue instead, though be careful or the fumes will burn your eyes.
